The Alaska bar examination, a 2½-day exam, consists of  

  • the six-hour Multistate Bar Examination (MBE), weighted 50%; 
  • two 90-minute Multistate Performance Test (MPT) questions, weighted 12.5%; 
  • three 1-hour Alaska essay questions, weighted 15%; and  
  • six 30-minute Alaska essay questions, weighted 22.5%.

The successful applicant must achieve a combined scaled score of 140. Applicants also must pass the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE) with a scaled score of 80 within 24 months before or after the bar exam.

The following subjects may be tested on the Alaska bar exam:

  • business organizations (associations, partnerships, corporations)
  • civil procedure 
  • constitutional law (Alaska and federal)
  • contracts, including UCC Article 2 sales
  • criminal law and procedure 
  • evidence 
  • family law 
  • real property, including real estate finance
  • torts
  • UCC Articles 1 (general provisions) & 2 (sales)
