The Delaware Board of Bar Examiners is responsible for the bar exam. The Examiners release the local essay questions or answers here. These links are reproduced below.

The Delaware bar exam, a 2½-day exam, consists of:

  • the six-hour Multistate Bar Examination (MBE), weighted 40%; 
  • two 90-minute Multistate Performance Test (MPT) problems, and
  • eight Delaware essay questions.

The successful applicant must achieve a combined scaled score of 145 out of 200. Applicants also must pass the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE) with a scaled score of 85 by January 1 of the year preceding or December 31 of the year following passage of the bar exam.

The following subjects may be tested on the Delaware bar exam:

  • agency (business associations)
  • constitutional law
  • contracts, including UCC Article 2 sales 
  • corporations (business associations)
  • criminal law and procedure (Delaware and federal)
  • equity (remedies)
  • evidence 
  • partnerships (business associations)
  • procedure in federal and Delaware courts, including Delaware appellate jurisdiction (civil procedure)
  • property, including real estate finance 
  • torts
  • trusts (wills, trusts, and estates)
  • Uniform Commercial Code, including Articles 1 (general provisions), 2 (sales), 3 (negotiable instruments), and 9 (secured transactions)
  • wills.
