The Illinois Board of Admissions to the Bar is one of the least transparent bar exam committees in the country. They offer general information about the exam, but precious little else. There isn't much original content on this exam, only three 30 minute local essays. These questions are not released to the public.

The Illinois bar exam, a 2-day exam, consists of the six-hour Multistate Bar Examination (MBE), weighted 50%;  one 90-minute Multistate Performance Test (MPT) problem, weighted 7%; six 30-minute Multistate Essay Examination (MEE) questions, and three 30-minute Illinois Essay questions, weighted 43%.

Applicants also must pass the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE) with a scaled score of 80. The MPRE may be taken only after the applicant has finished 2/3 of the credits for a J.D.

The following subjects may be tested on the Illinois bar exam:

      • administrative law
      • agency & partnership
      • business organizations (including corporations and LLCs)
      • commercial paper (negotiable instruments,  UCC Art. 3)
