The State of Maine Board of Bar Examiners is responsible for the Maine bar exam. The Maine bar exam does not have a great deal of original local content.

The examiners publish example answers to the essay questions, but they're not free and they're not available on-line.  

The Maine bar exam, a two-day exam, consists of

The successful applicant must achieve a combined scaled score of 138. The applicant also must pass the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE) with a scaled score of 80.

The following subjects may be tested on the Maine bar exam:

    • Maine rules of procedure (civil, criminal, and appellate)
    • agency (business associations)
    • conflict of laws
    • constitutional law
    • contracts, including UCC Art. 2 sales 
    • corporations (business associations)
    • creditors rights
    • criminal law
    • criminal procedure (Maine and federal)
    • equity (remedies)
    • evidence (Maine and federal)
    • family law
    • partnerships (business associations)
    • professional responsibility (Maine)
    • real property, including real estate finance 
    • statute of frauds
    • statutes of limitations
    • taxation (federal income)
    • torts
    • Uniform Commercial Code (articles not specified)
    • wills, trusts, and estates.
