The Wisconsin  Board of Bar Examiners is responsible for the bar exam. The Examiners do not release the local essay questions or answers. They do have a useful information bulletin about the exam.

The Wisconsin bar exam, a 2-day exam, consists of

  • the six-hour multiple-choice Multistate Bar Examination (MBE), weighted 50%;
  • six 45-minute Wisconsin essay questions, weighted 37.5%;
  • one 90-minute Multistate Performance Test (MPT) problem, weighted 12.5%.

Successful applicants must achieve a combined scaled score of 258. Wisconsin does not require applicants to take the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE).

The following subjects may be tested on the Wisconsin bar exam:

  • business organizations (partnership, corporations, associations, and sole proprietorships)
  • civil procedure (pleading and practice, jurisdiction)
  • commercial law, including UCC Articles 1 (general provisions), 2 (sales), 3 (negotiable instruments), and 9 (secured transactions)
